¾«¶«´«Ã½â€™s Music Department will present a pair of comedic operas, “La Canterina†and “Mavra.â€
The operas will be performed Friday, April 17 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 19 at 3 p.m. Both performances will be held in O’Donnell Auditorium, located at 50th Street and Huntington Ave.
La Canterina is a 1766 opera by Franz Joseph Haydn. La Canterina — which means “The Songstress†— follows the story of Gasparina and her two suitors. Both suitors are angered after learning about the other but continue to lavish her with money and diamonds.
Mavra is a 1922 opera by Igor Stravinsky. The opera demonstrates how young love will find a way. For Vassili, reaching Parasha entails disguising himself as a woman and working as a cook in her home. All goes well until Parasha’s mother catches “Mavra†shaving his face.
Tickets will be available at the door. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students.
